Growing Your Own Hops
I’ve just recently moved to Arizona from NYC and began growing my own hops. If you haven’t dabbled in this, I recommend it! Arizona is dry and hot most of the year, which isn’t necessarily ideal for hops, so I wanted to share my findings and give you the west coast approach.
Ride to the Ryes
On a beautiful, warm Sunday morning, the Brewminaries and friends gathered outside Bitter & Esters for a bike crawl to Queens to celebrate the release of the Ryes of the Brewminaries collaboration beer at Rockaway Brewing Company. Bitter & Esters co-owner, John LaPolla, organized the event that would take a team of beer lovers up through Brooklyn to three breweries in Long Island City: Transmitter, Big Alice, and Rockaway Brewing Company.
Dry Hop Experiment
On the afternoon of March 30th, just two weeks since we officially started the Brewminaries, a crew of Brewmies gathered on Bitter & Esters to brew a recipe based on Pliny the Elder to test three conditions for dry hopping.
